A guide to begin your mornings and days mindfully
Having a routine in the mornings that is just for you helps set the tone for the rest of the day. Like starting on the right foot. It allows you to start your day with intention. You include things in your routine that you like and enjoy, and this generally translates to a good morning leading to a good day.
There is no such thing as a perfect morning routine. Identify what makes you feel good and make it a part of your routine. This time is yours. If you don’t know where to begin, here are a few pointers to get you started -

Ground yourself - very simply put means to bring yourself back to the present moment. A simple method I prefer is to place one hand on the heart, one on the stomach and breathe deeply as many times as possible.
Meditation – either sit in silence observing your breath & quality of mind, or a guided meditation (the ones on Headspace are a personal favourite)
Exercise – move a little. Stretch, jog, yoga or any form that feels right for you.
Tea/coffee – enjoy the process from brewing it to sipping on it at a spot of your liking.
Journaling – write down your thoughts, give them a healthy outlet. You can choose from various formats – bullet journal, journal prompts, brain dump, or just freestyle and go with the flow each morning.
Pretty high on top of the list of things to not do is scroll through social media or the news. A personal peeve is an alarm tone that jolts you or wakes you unpleasantly. Exclude or change anything that does not support your zen mode from the beginning of your day.
A morning routine reduces stress levels, establishes a healthy patter that boosts clarity and peace of mind, and thereby productivity. It leaves you feeling settled and in control through the day. A small shift like this can amount to a big change in the quality of your day-to-day life.
Keep your routine simple. Do 2-3 things. Integrate your morning routine into what you’re already doing, rather than adding more things to your ‘to-do’ list. Don’t hesitate to change up your routine if you feel like it. Think about what makes you feel energised or grounded, and do it. Remember, this is for you.
